New Project Coming…

I wanted to let you know that a new project will be starting about uniform numbers after each of my regular posts… Tommorow is the start of it.

My Goals as an MLBlogger

As a “newer” MLBlogger I haven’t had great success… So far I have 3 bloggers who I want to say thanks to. They are: Julia of Julia’s Rants, Bobby the Mets Main Man and Mark of MLBlogosphere. you 3 have cheered me on since day 1, giving tips of information and supporting my blog. So a special “thank you” to you guys.:) As for the rest of you out there, I hope you look out and try to help unpopular blogs like mine. My goal is to one day get on the “Latest Leaders” page, become a well-known blog, and maybe even get to the Top 100 if they make a new list. In the regular season, I hope to improve as much as I can. I’ll look at all different blogs instead of just checking out my usual few, I will comment more frequently, and update more with a game to watch and report about 162 times. I can reach my goals if I try and try I will. I can do it!!!

P.S.  Should I write something besides “Mets Chat” on a comment? Like my username or something???

5th Starter and Brief Outfield Look-In

Well now it is clear that the Mets are going to have a best of the bunch battle with Livan Hernandez, Freddy Garcia, Tim Redding, and Jon Niese. Who will win? I don’t know… Freddy and Livan didn’t have great success last year and we are looking for a comeback player in them in 09. I think that Redding is going to be all right. Niese is the odd man out a rookie and a September call-up if I’m not mistaken. It will be an interesting spring training for sure…

In the outfield we are running out of options. Dunn and Aberu are gone! We aren’t getting Junior, Edmonds is too old so there is only one logical explanation that will save the Mets this year! the one, the only…… MANNY RAMIREZ!!!! It is time to fill that special place in the Mets fans hearts! The Million Manny March will prevail!!! (I hope!)

Mets Offense

The Mets must understand that good pitching
can’t win without good hitting. For instance, Tom Seaver was
once pitching a no-hitter. It was 2 outs in the bottom of the
9th. There was a single. Tom got the next guy out. One
problem… The Mets hadn’t scored any runs!!! Then in the
11th the Cubs scored a run off a relief pitcher. So much for
the no-no! So as I was saying the Mets can’t win with their
“great” bullpen and a young player and a player who hasn’t
been a full time major leaguer since I don’t know ’03? An old
2nd baseman with the new nickname of “Slappy McSingleton?” A
catcher who couldn’t get a single if ya payed him to? A right
fielder who suffers concussion after concussion? We are one
step closer if we end up trading Castro but, we reverse that
step since Louie Castillo is already at camp. Hopefully,
Pudge will sign with us and we will take another step
forward. The way The Mets are going we will be doing the
hokey pokey all offseason. Good move, then bad move. That is
how we work. We try to hurdle over the tough spots and
eventually we prevail you wait and see just wait and
see…

How Long Will It Last?

We are all aware of the Mets-Phillies rivalry that has lasted for a very short period of time. But, the real question is how long will it last? The city of brotherly love is not very brotherly. Is a Phillies fan throwing beer at a Mets fan brotherly? I saw this in person. It was at Shea and Mets weren’t even playing the Phillies! This is a rivalry that could last for a while. From Rollins saying we are comin at ya in 07, Beltran fighting back in 08, and now K-Rod saying that the Mets are definite division winners, this could go on for a while. We Mets fans must fight back. K-Rod already joining the team with his remark, is great. We are the New Mets. We have a new stadium, a new bullpen, and many more new beginnings to come.

NL East Breakdown

Who is a contender for the NL East winner? Let us find out with a breakdown of the teams.

NL East: Phillies: Still as much of a contender as they were last year but the Mets have better competition.
Mets: I know I’m a Mets fan but seriously, we have the best closer in the game, a great set-up, good hitters, we just need some talent at LF or RF, 2B please Omar, and catcher.
Marlins: NO WAY. You traded away starting 9, you aren’t getting Pedro, it is a no.         Braves: I’m sorry to say it but they ARE doing better. They are coming in 3rd in 09. You have Javier Vazquez and Kenshin Kawakami. Just maybe some upgraded hitting…
Nationals: Listen here, they seriously could be the 4th place team. All the puzzle pieces are getting into place but, Teixeira would have helped.

Back in the NL

Aaron Heilman was traded to the Cubs for Garrett Olson and Ronny Cedeno. Well now we don’t have to suffer from his terribleness, we can take advantage and benefit from it! Imagine Gary Cohen saying this: “Well the Cubs and Mets are battling it out for the NL pennant… Heilman on the mound, Wright at the plate… runners on 2nd and 1st, 2 outs, bottom 9, Game 7 of the NLCS… The pitch.. Wright hits it to the left-center gap! Reyes will easily score the tying run from 2nd and depending on where the ball is Murphy could go for the win.. Rounding 3rd is Murphy! The relay from Fukudome to Theriot to Soto and he is….. SAFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! METS WIN THE PENNANT!!!!!! IN THE BOTTOM OF THE 9TH WITH 2 DOWN the double by Wright wins it for the Mets and the pitcher? Aaron Heilman!” (Keith laughs in backround) Ron talks: “Wow. After being this horrid for the Mets, Heilman has let his former team win the pennant.” Keith talks: “Well y’know Ronnie I guess it evened out in the end. We had to deal with him for almost a decade and now we win cuz of him.” Gary talks: “Yes folks, a real storybook ending but it is not over yet.” Back to me. Those would be good times…..

Mets in the WBC

Well Mets of all shapes and sizes (some who played in 08 and some who will play in 09) will play in this winter’s WBC. On Team USA, we have David Wright, Brian Schneider, and J.J. Putz. For Venezuela we have Mr. 62 Saves and Johan Santana. Former Met Endy Chavez will be playing but I’m not sure for which team. Jose Reyes will be representing Dominican Republic and Carlos D and Carlos B are the 3 and 4 punch for Puerto Rico. I could see many or all of these players when I go to the WBC.

(I’ll find out about Endy)

Step it up!

It is time to do more! We have holes in LF, 2B, and C. I may have listed these before but the market has changed.

LF: Dunn, Manny, (I wish) Andruw Jones?

2B: Mr. Hudson. Rest of the 2B are not signing with us.

C: Johnny Estrada (yeah, remember him?) Tek for 1-2 years?

A closing remark. Omar has waited too long to make his moves. He didn’t sign with K-Rod until mid-December and he has missed out on a lot of players. P.S. Brian Schneider is NOT a starting catcher.

Pitcher’s Mode

You may recall that Omar Minaya said
recently that he was in a “pitcher’s mode.” Does that mean in
the whole week you sign 1 pitcher and 3 position players? And
please Omar do I really believe that Alex Cora, Cory
Sullivan, and Rob Mackowiak are going to affect this
